Ronald McDonald House - Fort Smith
Next to Mercy Hospital Fort Smith
RMHC of Arkoma is excited to announce the addition of an eleven-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in Fort Smith! With construction planned just a short walk away from Mercy’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the House will offer a place of respite to families of critically ill children from the River Valley, just as our existing Ronald McDonald Family Room has done for the past nine years. Continued support of the local community gives us the extraordinary opportunity to bring comfort home to thousands of more families in the coming years! How Will The New House Keep Families Close?
The 8,500 square foot Ronald McDonald House will provide many amenities for families in addition to the eleven overnight suites with full baths, including a laundry room, kitchen, and fully stocked pantry, dining room, playroom with outdoor playground, media room, and covered porch for relaxing. Located on the campus of Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, next to the Labor & Delivery Tower, families will be walking distance away from their child during their hospital stay.
The Ronald McDonald House is designed to provide a place of comfort to families of children ages 21 and under who are being treated at Mercy Hospital, all at no cost to families. In addition, the House will increase service to local families by a projected 300%, allowing even more families to be present and involved in their child’s treatment and recovery in the hospital.
“We are very excited about the Ronald McDonald House,” said Samantha Cole, director of Maternal Child Services at Mercy Fort Smith. “This is such a needed benefit for our community. Many times our NICU babies have big brothers and sisters, and with the opening of the RMH, the whole family will be together during the NICU stay in a house-like environment that allows mom and dad to be close.”
